AdventHealth Gordon is proud to recognize Tammy Sellers, a team member at the Edna Owens Breast Center, as the recipient of the June SonShine Award for her exceptional compassion and commitment to providing whole-person care.
The SonShine Award was established by AdventHealth Gordon and AdventHealth Murray in 2017 to honor the hard work and dedication of their team members. The recipients of the SonShine award “shine” for the “Son” of God through their warm and comforting care they provide to patients and their fellow team members.
Tammy was nominated by a patient who shared how her kindness and compassion transformed an overwhelming and frightening experience into one filled with comfort and hope.
Facing the uncertainty of additional testing after discovering a breast lump, the patient described Tammy as “the kindest and most caring health care professional” she had encountered. From the moment Tammy welcomed her from the waiting room, she took time to explain each step of the process, answer questions and ensure the patient felt informed, supported and at ease.
“She turned something so scary for me into something so compassionate,” the patient wrote in her nomination. “She truly loves her job. She was so hands-on, making sure I knew what was going on and making me comfortable. Tammy, thank you for being such a funny, kind, caring human. You are amazing.”
Tammy’s compassionate approach reflects AdventHealth’s commitment to caring for the whole person. Through her empathy, reassurance and dedication, she helped ease a patient’s fears during one of life’s most vulnerable moments.
“Tammy’s ability to combine clinical excellence with genuine compassion is a beautiful example of our mission in action,” said Emily Tarpley, manager of the Edna Owens Breast Center. “She reminds us that sometimes the greatest healing begins with kindness, and we are grateful for the difference she makes in the lives of our patients every day.”
