Georgia drivers have one more day to take advantage of lower fuel prices before the state’s suspension of motor fuel taxes comes to an end.

Governor Brian Kemp’s office confirmed that the temporary suspension of Georgia’s state gas tax will not be extended beyond its current deadline, meaning the tax break will expire at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2.

According to the governor’s office, the decision comes as oil prices have remained relatively stable following the busy Memorial Day travel weekend. As a result, Georgia’s motor fuel excise tax of approximately 33 cents per gallon will return beginning Wednesday.

The tax suspension was originally implemented to help offset higher fuel costs and provide relief for drivers. The measure has been extended several times in recent weeks through executive orders issued by the governor.

State officials are encouraging motorists to fill their tanks before the deadline to maximize savings before fuel stations begin adjusting prices to account for the reinstated tax.

While the exact timing of price increases may vary from station to station depending on fuel inventory and delivery schedules, drivers can generally expect pump prices to rise once the tax takes effect.

The tax suspension officially ends at 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, with the state’s motor fuel excise tax resuming at midnight on June 3.
