Residents in the Sugar Valley community may notice heavy smoke and an increased presence of emergency vehicles Thursday as Gordon County Fire & Rescue conducts a scheduled live fire training exercise.

The training will take place Thursday, November 5, beginning at 9 a.m. in the 700 block of Old Rome Dalton Road. The exercise is expected to continue throughout the day, with operations scheduled to conclude around 5 p.m.

According to Gordon County Fire & Rescue, the exercise will involve the controlled burning of an acquired structure, providing firefighters with valuable hands-on experience in live fire operations.

Residents and motorists traveling through the area may see fire trucks, emergency vehicles, and firefighters working at the training site. Smoke from the controlled burn may also be visible throughout the surrounding community.

Fire officials emphasize that the activity is part of a planned training exercise and does not involve an actual emergency.

The department also assures residents that adequate staffing and emergency apparatus will remain available throughout the training to respond to other emergencies across Gordon County.

The exercise is designed to strengthen firefighters’ skills and provide realistic training opportunities that help prepare crews to respond safely and effectively to structure fires and other emergencies.

Gordon County Fire & Rescue appreciates the community’s patience and understanding while firefighters complete the exercise.

Anyone with questions or concerns about the training may contact Gordon County Fire & Rescue at 706-629-8851.
