A Resaca man is facing charges after authorities say he shot and killed a neighbor’s service dog earlier this year.
According to the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office, 39-year-old Joshua Brown has been charged with aggravated cruelty to animals in connection with the incident.
Sheriff Mitch Ralston said investigators believe Brown “maliciously killed” the dog, which belonged to Vanessa Pack and her family. Pack first contacted deputies during the week of April 13 after becoming suspicious that Brown may have been involved in her dog’s disappearance.
According to Pack, Brown allegedly lured the dog onto his property, which is located less than 500 yards from the family’s home.
“Whether she was on his yard or mine, and despite the fact that he called her over there is no justification for his actions,” Pack wrote in a social media post. “This has devastated my mental health beyond words.”
Brown was arrested on Friday, April 17. His case is expected to be turned over to prosecutors, with the matter now headed to the district attorney’s office for further legal proceedings.
