Gordon County Update: Early Voting, Power Restoration, and Local Spending
Early voting for the 2026 primary is officially in its second full week in Gordon County, though local turnout is off to a quiet start.
Through the first seven days, a total of 887 citizens have cast their ballots. While steady, these numbers are lagging behind the pace of the 2022 primary. Election officials stress that local engagement remains key for shaping the community and avoiding Election Day lines. Early voting continues daily at the Gordon County Main Office. Weekday voting hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, and polls will also be open this Saturday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Sonoraville Power Restored
Power is fully restored to the Sonoraville and Red Bud areas following an overnight outage. An equipment failure at a local substation left up to 1,500 Gordon County customers in the dark. North Georgia EMC crews worked through the early morning hours to get all circuits back online just before 4:00 AM.
Commissioners Focus on Local Vendors
Looking ahead to tonight, the Gordon County Board of Commissioners will meet with a focus on keeping tax dollars local. The board is set to approve over $104,000 in 2024 SPLOST purchases for new Public Works and Parks and Recreation equipment. All contracts are going to local vendors, including Prater Ford, Royal Electric Vehicles, and Down to Earth Sales and Service. The work session starts at 5:00 PM at the Judicial Building, followed by the regular session at 6:00 PM.
Mohawk Industries Stock Declines
Shifting to the business front, Mohawk Industries stock took a 5% hit yesterday, closing at $94.93 a share. The flooring giant recently reported a first-quarter earnings beat, but analysts note the positive bottom line was driven by spending cuts and restructuring, not sales, which were actually down. The company points to high interest rates cooling off consumer spending in the housing and remodeling markets.
