Firefighters Rescue Elderly Woman from Gordon County Home
Gordon County Fire Rescue pulled an elderly woman from a heavily involved residential fire in the 4000 block of Rome Road Southwest yesterday. She was airlifted to a metro-area burn center and remains in critical condition. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Georgia State Fire Marshal’s Office.
County Commissioners Meeting and FY27 Budget
The Gordon County Board of Commissioners will meet tomorrow, June 2nd, for a 5:00 PM work session and a 6:00 PM voting session at the Judicial Building. The agenda includes the first public hearing for the FY2027 County Budget, an ordinance regarding Old Lily Pond Road, and votes on fleet investments and public safety grants.
Election Update: June 16th Primary Runoff

Fuel Tax Suspension Scheduled to Expire
Governor Kemp’s motor fuel tax suspension is set to expire at midnight tomorrow, June 2nd. Unless extended, gas prices are expected to rise by 33.3 cents per gallon for regular and 37.3 cents for diesel starting Wednesday morning.

Free summer meal programs for children ages 0–18 begin today.
– Calhoun City Schools: Monday–Friday, 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM (multiple locations).
– Gordon County Schools: Monday–Thursday, 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM (Tolbert Elementary and Sonoraville High).
Both programs will be closed June 29th – July 3rd.
