In our top story, a high-profile political tour is making its way through Gordon County. Republican U.S. Senate candidate Derek Dooley is bringing his “Georgia First Tour” to downtown Calhoun this afternoon.
Dooley will be joined by Governor Brian Kemp and First Lady Marty Kemp for a meet-and-greet at Cassie’s On Wall Street. The event is set to begin at 3:30 p.m., giving residents a chance to hear directly from state leaders before the tour moves north to Dalton tomorrow.
Turning to local law enforcement, a leadership change is underway at the Calhoun Police Department. Chief Tony Pyle has been placed on paid administrative leave following a special called meeting of city council.
While details of the investigation have not been released, Ken Carson has been named Interim Chief to oversee daily operations.
And finally, another day of critical fire danger is impacting Northwest Georgia. This marks the ninth straight day of alerts, with low humidity, warm temperatures, and extremely dry conditions increasing the risk of wildfire.
Officials with the Georgia Forestry Commission are urging residents to avoid all outdoor burning, as even a small spark could quickly spread.
