Georgia’s Statewide Burn Ban Begins Friday For Most Of Georgia Amid Ongoing Wildfires

As multiple wildfires continue to burn across parts of Georgia, a statewide burn ban will take effect Friday, marking the start of the annual restriction on outdoor burning.

The seasonal ban runs from May 1 through September 30 and prohibits residents and businesses from burning yard debris and land-clearing materials. The measure is designed to reduce the risk of wildfires during the hotter, drier months, when conditions make fires more likely to ignite and spread.

This year’s ban comes as several areas of the state are already dealing with heightened fire danger due to ongoing drought conditions. Officials say the added restriction is a critical step in limiting preventable fires and easing the burden on emergency response crews.

The statewide ban is separate from Georgia Environmental Protection Division regulations that already prohibit the burning of household garbage year-round.

While most outdoor burning is restricted, certain exceptions remain in place. Agricultural and forestry-related burns are still permitted under specific guidelines, and campfires are allowed as long as they are properly managed and meet established safety standards.

Authorities are urging residents to follow the ban closely and remain vigilant, noting that even small fires can quickly become dangerous under current conditions.
