Hunters across Georgia will soon be able to begin applying for quota hunts as the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division prepares for another hunting season.

Starting June 1, hunters can electronically apply for a variety of quota hunts through the state’s online system. Available hunts include select youth, deer, alligator, waterfowl, dove, and other specialty hunts held on Wildlife Management Areas and state-managed properties across Georgia.

According to the Wildlife Resources Division, quota hunts are designed to provide high-quality hunting opportunities while managing wildlife populations and reducing overcrowding in hunting areas.

“Having quota hunts allows us to offer a wide variety of high-quality hunts year after year,” said Tina Johannsen, Assistant Chief of the Game Management Section with the Wildlife Resources Division. “Mark your calendars now so you don’t forget to apply.”

Quota hunts are scheduled events where a limited number of hunters are selected to participate. Wildlife officials carefully determine the number of permits issued, harvest limits, and hunter types allowed to ensure a safe and sustainable experience. Hunters selected for quota hunts must also possess the proper hunting licenses.

Applications can be submitted online through the Go Outdoors Georgia website by selecting the “Quota Hunts” option and following the application instructions. Wildlife officials are encouraging hunters to make sure their email addresses are up to date to receive confirmations, updates, and additional notifications related to their applications.

The first application deadline is July 15 for alligator hunts, followed by August 15 for dove hunts, including adult-child hunts. Most deer hunt applications, including youth quota hunts, are due by September 1. Youth applicants for youth quota hunts must be 15 years old or younger.

Hunters who need help with the application process or want to verify their application can contact the Georgia Department of Natural Resources at 1-800-366-2661 for assistance.

Additional information, including application deadlines, hunt details, and selection odds, is available through the Georgia Wildlife Resources Division.
