A Calhoun man is facing multiple charges after authorities say he crashed into a Gordon County fire engine Thursday afternoon and fled the scene.

According to the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened around 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at the intersection of Interstate 75 and U.S. Highway 41.

Authorities said the Gordon County Fire engine was stopped in traffic when it was struck by a passenger car. The driver allegedly fled following the collision while a passenger was attempting to get out of the vehicle.

A Gordon County fire officer located the vehicle a few minutes later at a nearby apartment complex and notified law enforcement.

Calhoun Police officers and Gordon County sheriff’s deputies responded and found a vehicle with extensive damage to the front and rear, along with deployed airbags.

Deputies identified the driver as 31-year-old Jacob Alan Razo of Calhoun and took him into custody.

According to the sheriff’s office, Razo appeared to be intoxicated while speaking with officers. Deputies said a female acquaintance who had been riding with Razo told investigators she was inside the vehicle when it struck the fire engine and had attempted to get out as Razo drove away.

The Georgia State Patrol investigated the crash. Razo was taken to jail and charged with DUI, leaving the scene of an accident and other traffic offenses.

The sheriff’s office also reported that Razo has previously been arrested in Gordon County on charges including obstruction of law enforcement officers.

No injuries were reported in the sheriff’s office release.
