Gordon County Booking Report

Several individuals were booked into the Gordon County Jail over the past 24 hours on a variety of charges.

  • Christopher Lee Jackson, 44, of Calhoun, was arrested by the Calhoun Police Department and charged with family violence battery, simple battery (family violence), and three counts of third-degree cruelty to children.
  • Hunter Lee Chapman, 23, of Calhoun, was taken into custody by the Calhoun Police Department on charges of aggravated stalking, family violence simple battery, and willful obstruction of law enforcement officers.
  • Christopher Lee Brewer, 51, of Calhoun, was arrested by the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office and charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance with intent to distribute, three counts of possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, and possession and use of drug-related objects.
  • Drena Anne Erwin, 49, of Calhoun, was also arrested by the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office on the same drug-related charges as Brewer.
  • Johnathan Charles Randolph, 20, of Calhoun, was arrested by the Calhoun Police Department and charged with theft by receiving stolen property.
  • Elesa Gail Stewart, 55, of Chatsworth, was booked by the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office to serve a sentence for obstruction of an officer.

Food Distribution Planned in Calhoun

As food insecurity continues to impact families across the region, the Chattanooga Area Food Bank and Heritage Baptist Church will host a free drive-thru food distribution on Saturday, May 30.

The distribution will take place from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis.

Meanwhile, Georgia drivers continue to receive relief at the gas pump after Governor Brian Kemp extended the state’s suspension of the 33-cent motor fuel tax through June 2.

Bud Owens Reappointed to State Policy Leadership Role

Gordon County Commission Chairman Bud Owens has been reappointed as chair of the ACCG Health and Human Services Policy Committee.

Owens will continue working with local and state leaders on issues including indigent healthcare, emergency medical services, and mental health programs. The appointment comes as local governments evaluate the impact of recent state budget reductions approved by Governor Brian Kemp.

Calhoun Fire Department Promotes Heath Duke

The Calhoun Fire Department has announced the promotion of Heath Duke to Battalion Chief.

Fire Chief Mike Schutz and city leaders praised Duke’s experience and leadership, saying his promotion will strengthen field operations and shift command within the department.

AdventHealth Hosting Community AngioScreen Event

AdventHealth will offer free cardiovascular screenings during a Community AngioScreen event on Tuesday, June 2, at the Fairmount EMS Station.

Screenings will be available from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. and include stroke risk assessments, carotid artery ultrasounds, ankle-brachial index testing, abdominal aortic aneurysm screenings, and EKGs. The screenings take approximately 10 minutes and provide immediate results.

  • Judy Craig, candidate for the Gordon County Board of Education runoff election, discussed her background and priorities for the school system.
  • Claire Norman, executive director of United Way, highlighted the organization’s literacy initiatives and efforts to improve reading outcomes for local children.
  • Lynn Reeve of the Area Agency on Aging of Northwest Georgia discussed programs and resources available to seniors, caregivers, and families throughout the region.
