Gordon County Commissioners Extend Moratoriums on Data Centers, Anaerobic Digestion Facilities Through January 2027

The Gordon County Board of Commissioners has voted to extend the county’s temporary moratoriums on new data centers and anaerobic digestion facilities through Jan. 29, 2027.

The board approved the extension during its regular meeting Tuesday night, allowing additional time for county staff and attorneys to continue developing draft ordinances that will regulate the two types of developments.

County officials said the extended moratoriums are intended to provide time to craft regulations that balance future development with the long-term interests of Gordon County and its residents.

In a public notice issued following the meeting, the county acknowledged the significant public interest surrounding both issues and said officials remain committed to maintaining transparency throughout the ordinance development process.

As part of that commitment, the Board of Commissioners plans to hold at least one public town hall to gather community input before any proposed ordinances are considered for adoption. The county said meeting details will be announced to the public and local media once they are scheduled.

Officials also noted that any future public hearings on proposed ordinances will be advertised through the county’s designated legal organ and posted on the Gordon County website.

Because of the board’s action to extend the moratoriums, the public hearing previously scheduled during the July 13 Planning and Zoning Commission meeting has been canceled.

The temporary moratoriums pause the acceptance and review of applications for new data centers and anaerobic digestion facilities while county leaders work to establish permanent regulations governing those developments.
