GORDON COUNTY, GA — Farmers in Gordon County and across Northwest Georgia may be eligible for federal assistance as drought conditions continue to impact agricultural operations in the region.
The Georgia Department of Agriculture, in coordination with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, has designated several counties as disaster areas due to ongoing dry conditions. Nearby counties, are also included as contiguous disaster counties, allowing local farm operators to apply for emergency loan assistance.
The designation enables qualified producers to seek support through the USDA’s Farm Service Agency, helping offset losses and maintain operations during a difficult growing season.
Agriculture officials say the prolonged lack of rainfall is placing significant stress on crops and livestock, increasing production costs and creating uncertainty for farmers statewide.
The disaster declaration is designed to provide much-needed relief and help sustain farm operations in communities like Gordon County, where agriculture plays a vital role in the local economy.
Farmers interested in applying for assistance are encouraged to contact their local Farm Service Agency office for details on available programs and eligibility requirements.
