Georgia voters made several key decisions Tuesday in the state’s primary runoff elections, determining party nominees for a number of statewide offices ahead of the November general election.

In the Republican race for U.S. Senate, Congressman Mike Collins defeated first-time candidate Derek Dooley to secure the GOP nomination. Collins now advances to face incumbent Democratic U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff in what is expected to be one of the nation’s closely watched Senate contests. The race could play a significant role in determining control of the U.S. Senate during the final years of President Donald Trump’s second term.

In the Republican gubernatorial runoff, Rick Jackson defeated Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones to win his party’s nomination for governor. Jackson will now face Democratic nominee Keisha Lance Bottoms in November’s general election.

Republican voters also selected nominees for two other statewide constitutional offices. Tim Fleming defeated Vernon Jones in the Secretary of State runoff, while State Senator Greg Dolezal won the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor, defeating John F. Kennedy.

On the Democratic side, former judge Penny Brown Reynolds emerged victorious over Dana Barrett in the Secretary of State runoff. State Senator Josh McLaurin defeated Nabilah Islam Parkes to secure the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor.

Additional Democratic runoff races saw Keisha Sean Waites defeat Deandre Mathis for the Insurance Commissioner nomination. Meanwhile, Nikki Porcher defeated Michelle Sanchez in the race for Labor Commissioner.

With the runoff elections now complete, attention shifts to the November general election, where Georgia voters will decide several statewide offices in contests expected to draw significant attention and campaign activity across the state.
