Georgia Northwestern Technical College is warning students about a phishing email campaign targeting members of the college community.

According to GNTC, fraudulent emails have recently been sent to some students from an address appearing to be the school’s Financial Aid Office at [email protected]. While the messages may appear legitimate at first glance, college officials said the emails are not from GNTC.

The phishing emails contain several common warning signs, including requests for recipients to click on a link, subject lines written entirely in capital letters, and offers involving money or financial opportunities.

GNTC’s Technology Services team said it is actively working to block the emails and remove any that reach student inboxes. The college has also distributed a cybersecurity notice to students with additional information about the scam and how to protect themselves.

College officials are reminding students to exercise caution before clicking on links or providing personal information online. Students who receive suspicious emails are encouraged to verify the sender and contact GNTC directly if they have concerns about the legitimacy of a message.

GNTC officials said staying alert to potential phishing attempts is one of the best ways to prevent identity theft and protect personal information.
