Gordon County residents have several new opportunities to give back and get involved this week.

Paper Recycling Now Available
Six new paper-only recycling containers are now in place at Gordon County trash compactor sites, thanks to a $69,523 Environmental Protection Division grant secured by Keep Calhoun-Gordon Beautiful (KCGB) in partnership with the county. The waterproof roll-off bins are designed to handle paper products only, helping reduce landfill waste and expand local recycling opportunities. KCGB encourages residents to take advantage of the program.

Operation Happy Christmas Program Opens
The Voluntary Action Center (VAC) has opened registration for its annual Operation Happy Christmas Program, which provides holiday assistance to families in need. Parents must attend one required class before receiving an application, with class schedules available on the VAC website. The program has space for 600 children this year. To qualify, families must live in Gordon County, and children must be school-aged and either enrolled in a county school or homeschooled. Families cannot apply to multiple assistance programs.

Santa in Uniform Raffle Underway
Gordon County Fire & Rescue is once again hosting its Santa in Uniform Raffle to raise funds for local families. This year’s grand prize is a $1,249.99 backyard grilling package featuring a Weekend Warrior Grill, grilling utensils, pellets, and a rub and sauce bundle. Raffle tickets are $5 each or five for $20, available at Station 1 (cash only) or via Venmo through the event flyer’s QR code. The drawing will be held on August 29, and winners do not need to be present. All proceeds benefit the Santa in Uniform program, which provides holiday gifts for families in need.
