The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) has released its New Year’s holiday travel period activity report, outlining enforcement efforts and crash statistics recorded statewide by law enforcement agencies.
According to the report, troopers and officers issued 125 DUI citations during the holiday travel period. Distracted driving violations totaled 113, while 163 seatbelt citations were issued as part of efforts to promote roadway safety.
Law enforcement agencies reported 57 total crash reports statewide during the travel period. Those crashes resulted in 20 injuries and two fatalities, reflecting the continued dangers associated with holiday travel.
The report also shows that six crashes involved drivers under the influence, while two crashes involved commercial motor vehicles (CMVs).
Georgia DPS officials emphasize the importance of safe driving practices, particularly during busy travel periods. Motorists are urged to avoid impaired and distracted driving, wear seatbelts at all times, and remain alert while sharing the road with commercial vehicles.
The activity report represents data collected by all law enforcement agencies statewide during the New Year’s holiday travel period.
