Two major bridge replacements in Gordon County are now complete and open to traffic following a multi-million-dollar investment by the Georgia Department of Transportation.

The Gordon County project included the replacement of two bridges on State Route 136 over the Coosawattee River and a nearby tributary. The $9 million project was designed to improve safety and reliability along a key east-west corridor that serves both local traffic and regional travel through the county.

GDOT officials say the new bridges will provide smoother travel, improved structural integrity, and long-term durability for motorists using SR 136, which connects communities across Northwest Georgia.

The Gordon County bridge work was part of a larger GDOT effort that recently wrapped up five major transportation projects throughout the region. In total, contracts for the completed projects exceeded $51 million.

Among the other projects completed was bridge rehabilitation work on multiple bridges along Interstate 59 in Dade County, a $4.9 million investment aimed at maintaining one of the region’s most heavily traveled freight and commuter routes.

In Floyd County, GDOT replaced the bridge on State Route 293 over Dykes Creek at a cost of $8.5 million and also completed a $1.8 million replacement of the bridge on Rehoboth Road over Spring Creek.

The largest project in the group was the $26.8 million Villa Rica Bypass in Carroll County. Built between State Routes 101 and 61, the bypass now allows truck traffic to avoid downtown Villa Rica, reducing congestion and improving traffic flow.

GDOT officials say the completed projects reflect continued investment in transportation infrastructure across Northwest Georgia, with the Gordon County bridge replacements playing a key role in improving safety and connectivity for the region.
