The City of Calhoun will honor former City Councilman Ray Denmon with multiple designations recognizing his service to the community.
At the Monday night Calhoun City Council meeting on Jan. 26, 2026, Councilmember Bruce Potts recommended that the city formally recognize Denmon. The recommendation was unanimously approved by council members.
A special reception will be held on Monday, Feb. 23, from 6 to 7 p.m. prior to the regular City Council meeting. During the reception, Feb. 23 will be officially recognized as “Ray Denmon Day” in Calhoun, and Denmon will be presented with a proclamation honoring his contributions to the city.
In addition, the Black and Yellow Playground located at the Calhoun Recreation Center off McDaniel Station Road will be renamed the Ray Denmon Black and Gold Park in his honor.
City officials said the recognitions reflect Denmon’s lasting impact and dedication to the Calhoun community.
