Dangerously cold temperatures and wind chills are affecting much of north and central Georgia today, according to the National Weather Service.
Forecasters say the frigid conditions will persist through the early afternoon hours, with wind chills making temperatures feel significantly colder than actual readings. The cold poses a risk to anyone spending extended time outdoors.
Residents are urged to take precautions if they must be outside. The National Weather Service recommends dressing in warm layers, including a hat and gloves, to reduce the risk of cold-related illnesses.
Officials also remind the public to limit time outdoors when possible and to check on vulnerable individuals, including the elderly and those without adequate heating, as the extreme cold continues.
