Two Injured in Gordon County House Fire
Two people suffered minor burns during a residential fire early Saturday morning in Calhoun.
Gordon County Fire Rescue responded around 5:45 a.m. on February 14 to a home at 648 Gee Road. According to Fire Chief Heath Derryberry, the injuries occurred while the residents attempted to extinguish the fire before crews arrived.
The fire has been ruled accidental, but the home sustained extensive damage. Officials note this marks at least the 10th residential fire in Gordon County since Thanksgiving week.
Board of Elections Meeting Scheduled
The Gordon County Board of Elections and Registration will meet Tuesday, February 17, at 9:30 a.m.
The meeting will be held at the Board of Elections Office inside the Gordon County Courthouse, 100 S. Wall Street, Suite 1, Calhoun.
Residents and interested parties are encouraged to attend.
Blewer Food Center Announces Temporary Location Change
Blewer Food Center is temporarily relocating its food distribution site.
Until further notice, distribution will take place at Blackwood Springs Baptist Church, 4921 Fairmount Highway SE, Calhoun. Hours will remain Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
No appointment is required. First-time visitors must bring a driver’s license, photo ID, and Social Security card.
Those able to notify the director ahead of time are asked to email [email protected] with their name, last four digits of their Social Security number, number of household members, and preferred pickup date and time.
President Trump to Visit Rome Amid Special Election
President Donald Trump is scheduled to visit Rome, Georgia, on Thursday, February 19, according to the White House.
The visit will include remarks focused on affordability and the economy, followed by a stop at a local business.
During a February 16 press conference, Trump referenced the ongoing special election for Georgia’s 14th Congressional District seat and later announced his full endorsement of former Dade County District Attorney Clay Fuller.
Early voting is currently underway for the special election following the vacancy created when former Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene vacated the seat in January.
