Residents across North and Central Georgia are being urged to take extra precautions as the National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a Red Flag Warning from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. EDT Saturday.
According to the Calhoun Fire Department, dangerous fire weather conditions are expected due to a combination of low humidity and strong winds. Northwest winds will range from 10 to 15 miles per hour, with gusts reaching up to 30 mph, while relative humidity levels are forecast to drop below 20 percent.
These conditions significantly increase the risk of rapidly spreading wildfires. Officials warn that any outdoor burning could quickly get out of control.
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring or will develop soon, and it applies to all fire districts and zones in the region.
Residents are strongly encouraged to avoid outdoor burning, properly dispose of cigarettes, and remain alert for any signs of fire. Local fire officials stress that even a small spark could lead to dangerous situations under these conditions.
