The Calhoun City Council is set to consider a wide range of business during its Monday, June 22 meeting, including the adoption of the city’s fiscal year 2027 budget, utility and government fee resolutions, zoning matters, alcohol license applications, and several community event requests.
The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the Depot Community Room at 109 South King Street. Prior to the evening session, a noon conference meeting will be held in the conference room at City Hall, located at 700 West Line Street.
One of the first items on the agenda will be the swearing-in of John Robbins to the Calhoun City School Board of Education. Robbins was recently appointed to fill the vacant Post 3 seat, with the term running through December 31, 2029.
Council members will also hold a public hearing on a beer and wine package sales application submitted by La Bodega Calhoun, Inc. for a location at 118 WC Bryant Parkway. Mohit Manson is listed as the owner and proposed store manager.
Several zoning and annexation requests will receive second readings, including a setback variance request from First Baptist Church of Calhoun for property located at 411 College Street. Additional annexation and rezoning requests involve properties on South Wall Street, Salem Road, and Red Bud Road. Public hearings for those requests are scheduled for July 6 following review by the Zoning Advisory Board on July 2.
Another alcohol-related item includes a second reading of a beer and wine package application for Rocket #3 at 1000 Mauldin Road. The applicant is Timaki Patel, with Jayant Patel proposed as store manager. A public hearing on that request is also scheduled for July 6.
Among the most significant items of business will be the adoption of several financial measures, including the proposed 2026 Utility Rate Resolution, the 2026 General Government Fee Resolution, and the City of Calhoun and Calhoun City Schools annual operating budget and capital plan for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2026, and ending June 30, 2027.
Under new business, council members will consider parade requests for the Northwest Georgia Regional Fair Parade on September 12, the annual Christmas Parade on December 10, and the Calhoun High School Homecoming Parade on October 1. All parade requests remain subject to approval from the Georgia Department of Transportation.
The council will also consider a request from the Downtown Development Authority to expand Saturday Farmers Market road closures along Piedmont Street between Trammell Street and Line Street from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. Organizers say the additional closure would improve pedestrian safety and provide more space for vendors as participation continues to grow.
In addition, city leaders will review a recommendation from the Engineering Department to award a $290,270.80 bid to Consolidated Pipe & Supply for materials and supplies needed for the waterline relocation associated with the State Route 156 at Salacoa Creek Bridge project. Funding would come from fiscal year 2026 Water and Sewer operating funds.
The meeting is open to the public. Following work reports from city and utility administrators, council members may enter executive session if necessary before adjournment.
