Calhoun Police Chief James “Tony” Pyle has resigned and retired from his position with the City of Calhoun, according to an announcement released by City Attorney Brandon Bowen.

In a statement issued Wednesday, Bowen said the city appreciates Pyle’s years of service and wished him well in retirement.

“Chief James ‘Tony’ Pyle has chosen to resign and retire from his position as Chief of the Police for the City of Calhoun. The City administration thanks him for his long service to the people of Calhoun and wishes him the best in his retirement,” Bowen said.

The statement also addressed a previously conducted investigation into allegations concerning Pyle’s conduct while serving as police chief.

According to Bowen, the Calhoun City Council commissioned an independent investigation into the allegations. The investigation concluded that the claims were either unsubstantiated or unfounded.

“Previously, certain allegations had been made regarding the Chief in the conduct of his duties. The City Council caused an independent investigation to be made of those allegations, which resulted in a finding that the allegations were unsubstantiated or unfounded. The investigation has been closed,” Bowen stated.

City officials did not release additional details regarding the allegations or provide information about the timing of Pyle’s resignation.

The City of Calhoun has not yet announced who will serve as the department’s next chief or whether an interim chief has been appointed.

Pyle’s retirement brings an end to his tenure leading the Calhoun Police Department, where he served the community and oversaw law enforcement operations for the city.
