BUSINESS & NATIONAL ECONOMY
Interest Rates, Jobs, and Mohawk Q2 Expectations
On the national stage, financial experts indicate the Federal Reserve is locked into holding interest rates steady through the end of the year, pushing potential cuts out to 2027. The broader job market has entered a “low-hire, low-fire” phase, with unemployment projected to anchor around 4.5%. Persistent upward price pressures mean consumers should remain tight with their budgets.
Closer to home, Wall Street analysts are turning their attention to the upcoming second-quarter corporate earnings season. All local eyes are on local flooring giant Mohawk Industries, with consensus Q2 adjusted earnings per share expected to land between $2.50 and $2.60. While Mohawk outperformed estimates in Q1, several financial institutions have shaved stock price targets to around $120. Industry experts emphasize that a persistent “triple whammy” of high fuel costs, elevated mortgage and interest rates, and ongoing tariff uncertainty continue to create a highly restrictive environment for the flooring manufacturer.
