Calhoun Approves 90-Day Moratorium On Data Centers

The Calhoun City Council has voted to enact a 90-day moratorium on the development of data centers within city limits, temporarily halting any new projects while officials evaluate future regulations.

City leaders say the pause will give them time to draft more restrictive and protective ordinances aimed at addressing potential impacts on the community, including infrastructure demands, land use, and long-term planning considerations.

A moratorium is a temporary suspension or delay of activity, and during this 90-day period, no new data center developments will be approved.

Once proposed ordinances are developed, the city plans to hold public hearings to gather input from residents before any permanent regulations are adopted.

Officials say the goal is to ensure that any future data center projects align with Calhoun’s growth plans and reflect the interests of the community.
