The Gordon County Schools Board of Education officially named Ms. Dana Tankersley as the new assistant principal of Gordon Central High School during its May 11 meeting.
Tankersley brings more than 15 years of educational experience to the position, having served in multiple instructional and leadership roles across Northwest Georgia schools since beginning her career in 2010.
She currently serves at Red Bud Middle School as an Advanced Science Educator, where she also works as the school’s Gifted Lead and supports school communications as a social media representative. Tankersley is also a graduate of the Gordon County Schools Aspiring Leaders Program, which helps prepare educators for leadership roles within the district.
Throughout her career, Tankersley has focused on improving student engagement, supporting instructional excellence, and implementing data-driven strategies to enhance student achievement. She has collaborated with educators on initiatives involving literacy integration, vertical alignment, and three-dimensional science instruction.
Before joining Gordon County Schools, Tankersley worked in both Murray County Schools and Whitfield County Schools. Her previous experience includes teaching science, mathematics, and social studies at Gladden Middle School and Westside Middle School. While in Murray County, she also provided advanced middle grades students with high school-level physical science instruction and supported several school leadership initiatives.
Tankersley earned her degree in Middle Grades Mathematics and Science from Kennesaw State University and is Broad Field Science certified. She also holds an Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Berry College, along with an Education Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction and a Master of Arts degree from Piedmont College.
“I am honored to serve the students, staff, and families of Gordon Central High School,” Tankersley said. “I look forward to supporting the continued growth and success of our school community.”
School officials say Tankersley is committed to building strong relationships, supporting effective instruction, and creating learning environments where students feel supported, challenged, and engaged.
Gordon County Schools encouraged the community to join in congratulating Tankersley and welcoming her to Warrior Nation.
